About
Preserving the past to innovate for the future.

Taking its name from the fictitious country in which Alfred Hitchcock's "The Lady Vanishes" is set, Bandrika has been — much like its namesake — a hidden corner of the music world in Los Angeles, until now. Nevertheless, in its short history, Bandrika has welcomed scores of top composers, musicians, and engineers, through its doors, carrying forward the tradition of recording live music in Los Angeles.

Our Story
OUR STORY

Born from an irrepressible dream.

Opened in 2018, Bandrika is the culmination of years of musical curiosity and exploration on the part of its owner and founder, Nathan Barr. A prominent film and television composer known for his experimentation with acoustic and mechanical instruments, Nathan had long envisioned a recording environment where rare instruments abound and anything is possible. That vision became the DNA for Bandrika's design.

When Nathan discovered that the former Fox Studios Wurlitzer pipe organ was looking for a new home, he jumped at the opportunity to preserve a piece of Hollywood music history and make it the centerpiece of the studio he envisioned.

In the process of designing an optimal acoustic environment for the organ, our team ended up with a room that flatters anything in it, from the organ's 16-foot bass pipes to drum kits and orchestras.

"You feel the history of movies. You feel the elegance of cinema. And it just gets into your soul."
